The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District (GDCD) operates and maintains the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the Garrison Diversion Unit (GDU) existing facilities under a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation. These facilities consist of the McClusky Canal, New Rockford Canal and Oakes Test Area. The District also assists with O&M of the Snake Creek Pumping Plant and other constructed GDU facilities operated by the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and the Fish and Wildlife Service.
These O&M activities are performed by personnel located at offices in McClusky, New Rockford and Oakes . These offices were constructed by the USBR as part of the GDU Project and are centrally located within each area for efficient operations. There is a total of 25 O&M personnel at these offices; 18 at McClusky, 1 at New Rockford and 5 at Oakes. Each office is managed by an on-site supervisor, and the overall O&M activities are managed by the District Engineer who is located at Carrington.
Routine O&M is performed by personnel at each of these offices and generally consists of erosion control, O&M road maintenance, vegetative management (including weed control) drainage work, right-of-way maintenance (including fence repair), water operations and general maintenance of all facilities and structures.
